Barry has practiced in Family Law since 1985. After eight years private practice as a solicitor/advocate in Family Law and Criminal Law, he was recruited to the Family Court at Parramatta as a Deputy Registrar/Mediator in 1993. He became Senior Deputy Registrar in 1998.
In the area of Family Law Barry is an Accredited Specialist and also an Accredited Mediator and Arbitrator. He is considered one of the most experienced Mediators in Family Law in Australia today. Barry is also a Fellow of the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers.
Prior to joining Watts McCray, he presented the Family Court’s mediation training program for Counsellors and Registrars.
Barry’s experience covers litigation practice in the Family Court and NSW Local, District and Supreme Courts.
Our clients will benefit from Barry’s extensive experience ‘on both sides of the bar table’. His confidence in the Court room and in negotiation is based on his work as an advocate, his intimate knowledge of the Family Courts’ procedures and his experience in negotiating fast settlements for hundreds of separating couples.
This experience enables Barry to give accurate advice as to the likely outcome of proceedings in the Family Court. His holistic approach to litigation and dispute resolution enables clients to achieve the best possible settlement in financial and parenting disputes and make a new start in life on the best possible terms.
Barry grew up in Carlingford and studied Arts/Law at the University of NSW. After admission he lived and worked in Taree in country NSW for eight years. He then worked in the Family Court in Sydney and Parramatta from 1993 until joining Watts McCray in June 2000.
