Bill is an expert in the information and data laws that regulate the global digital economy. He has a practical, commercial focus gained through dual legal and technology qualifications and previous experience including as a senior executive of a global telco. Bill's practice increasingly focusses on legal compliance in the fast changing mobile digital economy, where the collection, protection and exploitation of information and data rights is becoming the engine of the entire global economy.
Information and data laws encompass intellectual property (IP) rights, technology, information, data security, privacy and mobility laws, often in a multi-jurisdictional context.
Bill's practice falls into three main fields:
- Advising government and corporate organisations on legal aspects of cloud technology, privacy and data security, social marketing, procurement of ICT products and services, and digital commercialisation;
- Providing local and global organisations with commercial and strategic legal advice on structuring and leveraging IP to capitalise on the digital opportunity including the registration, protection and commercialisation of branding (trade marks), patents, designs and confidential information; and
- Providing legal advice on the collection, exploitation and protection of information and data, encompassing privacy advice, digital data (IP) rights, data mobility, data security (and breach) and surveillance.
Bill was 'Recommended' in Legal 500 Asia Pacific 2015 for Telecommunications, Media and Technology Law and 'Leader' in Telecommunications, Media and Technology Law in Doyle's Guide 2015. Bill was also named in Best Lawyers® 2016 as one of Australia's best lawyers in the field of Privacy and Data Security Law.
