Deanne is a mother of two, and a long term Cairns resident. She has been practising in family and de facto law for over 20 years. Deanne DrummondPassionate about the rights of children, Deanne acted for the applicants in the first family law case held on Thursday Island about traditional adoption. In 2013 she presented a paper at the 6th World Congress on Family Law and Children’s Rights in Sydney on Kupai Omasker and traditional adoption practices in Australia’s family law system.
Deanne is a former lecturer in family law at James Cook University and past Sessional Member of the Queensland Civil Administration Tribunal (QCAT) where she worked in the Human Rights Division. She regularly presents papers at conferences in Cairns and throughout Australia.
As a qualified mediator, collaborative lawyer and independent children’s lawyer (ICL), Deanne believes in working hard to find tailor made solutions for clients and their families – often without the need to go to Court.
