Monica’s approach to family law matters is thorough, empathetic and pragmatic. She appreciates that family law issues can be complex, stressful and emotional. Monica prides herself on providing the firm’s clients with practical, cost effective options in relation to their legal issues. Monica is committed to helping our clients to make the most informed decisions about their futures for themselves and their families following relationship breakdown. These important decisions help people experiencing relationship breakdown to move on with the next chapter in their lives with independence, financial security and dignity.
Monica’s passion for family law started in 2010 while studying her undergraduate law degree at the Macquarie University Law School. While studying law Monica worked closely with an Accredited Family Law Specialist and she quickly recognized her keen abilities and desire to work in this unique area of the law.
Following her admission as a Solicitor in New South Wales in 2012, Monica continued to work exclusively in the area of family law, working with a team of family law specialists on a number of complex financial and parenting cases. In 2015, and prior to joining Watts McCray in 2017, Monica’s interest in family law encouraged her to complete a Master of Laws at the University of Sydney.
On a personal note, Monica has a genuine interest in human rights issues and access to justice and she has volunteered for community organisations in helping disadvantaged families. Monica’s volunteering has taken her to Indonesia to work and learn with people in impoverished circumstances. Monica’s time overseas has also provided her with valuable exposure to culture and life experience in Asia. This has broadened her outlook on life and her awareness of the importance and strength of community. Monica continues this commitment to community values by volunteering at the Women’s Legal Centre in the ACT on a pro bono basis.
