Ryan Thomas, Andersons Solicitors

Doyles Guide

Ryan is an accredited "Family Law Specialist" and heads our team of Family lawyers. Ask Ryan what the essence of his job is and he describes himself as a problem solver. As he puts it, no one enters a relationship expecting or hoping that major problems will crop up. But they do, unfortunately.

When relationship problems get to the point of inevitable breakdown and Family Law needs to apply, you want the very best problem solver you can. This he knows personally. Ryan has co-parented his teenage son for a number of years and understands the difficulties associated with the ways that relationships can change over time.

Ryan is a thinker; someone who thrives on working through issues and challenges. A career in law was therefore an excellent ‘fit’. Since graduating from law school Ryan has worked predominately in Family Law. Joining Andersons as a Senior Associate specialising in Family Law in 2010 Ryan became Andersons’ youngest Partner in 2012.

The emotional and financial burden bearing on people going through relationship breakdown is invariably significant and settling disputes out of court by negotiation and/or mediation is always Ryan’s preferred course of action. Frequently, avoiding court action can be satisfactorily achieved via out of court alternatives known as Alternative Dispute Resolution. Ryan is able to settle most of the matters coming across his desk without proceeding to court but if required, Ryan will fight hard for a client’s rights in court.

Ryan sets great store in providing his clients with honest, realistic and experienced advice at every stage. Understandably, clients’ expectations can be greatly influenced by the distressing nature of the time they are going through. At every step of the way, Ryan’s advice is both empathetic and realistic.

He has a keen interest in Family Law property settlements; particularly more complex settlements involving investment properties, share portfolios, family trusts, self-managed super funds and proprietary limited companies.

His Family Law experience is complimented by the broad range of Business and Management knowledge gained from his Masters of Business Administration. Ryan is passionate about further education and has completed his second Masters degree, a Masters of Law (Applied Law), majoring in Family Law.
