Minters snaps up asset finance partner

James Mok, Minter Ellison

Aircraft leasing and financing specialist James Mok has joined Minter Ellison’s Sydney office.  He joins from King & Wood Mallesons, where he had been a partner since 2006.

Commenting on the appointment, head of the Minter Ellison Finance Division, Paul Paxton, said he was delighted to welcome a practitioner of Mok’s calibre to the team.

“We have worked across the table from James on a number of transactions. He is well liked by his clients and respected by the market, and has an excellent reputation for being technically outstanding and solving problems in a commercial manner.

“As one of the leading practitioners in structured and asset finance in Australia, James adds additional depth to our finance capabilities in Sydney and reinforces our reputation as the ‘go to’ team in the market. As he has a particular interest in the Asian market, he also strengthens our offering to clients regionally,” Paxton said.

Mok will work closely with partner John Elias in a team that advises across derivatives, debt capital markets, securitisation, receivables finance and asset finance.

Educated at the University of Queensland, Mok holds a Bachelor of Commerce and a Bachelor of Laws with Honours. He lectures in postgraduate finance law at the University of New South Wales, and has authored articles for the Journal of Banking and Financial Law Practice.
