Kerri Patterson, O’Connor Patterson Smith

Kerri completed her Bachelor of Laws at James Cook University and began her legal career working in a general practice law firm in the Burdekin, North Queensland where she gained experience in relation to a wide range of legal matters. It was here that Kerri decided to dedicate her skills to assisting vulnerable clients through the criminal and family law systems.

Kerri decided to further her career in criminal law and commenced work at a community legal service working predominantly to represent the legal rights of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the North Queensland area. During this time, Kerri represented clients in relation to a range of criminal matters and advocated passionately on their behalf in the Children’s Court, Magistrates Court, District Court, Children’s Court of Queensland and the Supreme Court.

For a number of years, Kerri has specialized in Youth Justice matters, working as an advocate for children charged with criminal offences and also having worked for the Department of Justice and Attorney-General – Youth Justice Services.

Most recently, Kerri has worked at a community legal service, representing clients in the areas of family law, domestic violence and child protection.

Kerri is a tenacious advocate who is well-respected in the legal community. She is committed to ensuring that her client’s rights are protected. Throughout her career, Kerri has established strong relationships with the legal profession and judiciary, promoting best possible client outcomes.
