I have had the privilege of working exclusively in family law since 2001 and becoming an Accredited Specialist in Family Law in 2009. I have experienced all facets of this particular area of law. Family law touches on so many other areas and I thoroughly enjoy continuing to learn how my area of practice intercepts those other areas. Every single day on the job brings a challenge. No day is ever the same.
My practice ranges from those matters where my involvement is documenting and advising on agreements spouses have already reached between themselves, to “dismantling” or “preserving” very complex financial structure or helping clients to manage their way through very high conflict parenting matters. Each and every case requires my empathy, management skills, communication skills, as well as my legal skills. My clients are local, interstate and overseas. This gives me the opportunity to work hand in hand with lawyers around the country and in other countries. To collaborate and ensure that clients’ interests in more than one jurisdiction are protected is very rewarding.
My focus from the time I meet or speak with a new client is to try, where possible, to avoid the cost, delay and risk associated with litigation. The cases where litigation achieves the best outcome for a family are few and far between. I find much more satisfaction in helping clients to properly explore all of their options and select a path that allows them to keep control of the outcome.
The very best work days are the ones when I have helped a client “strike a deal”, whether that be a parenting arrangement or a financial arrangement and my focus in my practice of law will continue to concentrate on alternatives to litigated outcomes for my clients.
