Rick Jones, Jones Mitchell

Doyles Guide

After several years practising in general litigation and family law, Rick Jones and David Mitchell established Jones Mitchell in 1990 – the first and only law firm in Queensland practising exclusively in matrimonial and family law, including de facto relationships. After founding the first and still the largest family law firm in Queensland, Rick enjoys a family law career where he is instrumental in helping his clients resolve complex issues and move on with their lives. He also enjoys the richness of mentoring and developing a team of efficient, and effective family law practitioners who perpetuate his unique professional practice methods. In addition to his specialisation in more complex family law cases, Rick was one of the first family lawyers in Queensland to become an approved mediator. Throughout his career, he has conducted numerous family mediations involving parties from the Gold Coast, Brisbane, interstate and overseas. More recently in 2001, Rick was accredited as one of the few arbitrators in Queensland. Rick has a strong focus on arbitration, early neutral evaluation, and mediation – various forms of alternate dispute resolution. For many years, Rick has addressed family lawyers at many conferences, seminars and legal symposiums organised by the Queensland Law Society, the Family Law Practitioners Association of Queensland, Bond University and other various professional and public interest/legal education organisations and institutions. Rick also authored and co-ordinated The Australian Family Law Index which was previously published through and by the Continuing Legal Education Department of the Queensland Law Society.
