Tim Horsley, Johnson Horsley Lawyers

im was admitted as a solicitor in 1992. He joined the firm in 1998 and become a partner in 2001. Tim is an Accredited Specialist in Family Law and also in Children's Law and regularly appears in the Local Court, Children's Court, Family Court and Federal Circuit Court as a solicitor-advocate. He has a wide experience in most areas of litigation and has participated in the Duty Solicitors Scheme operating at the Children's Court at Port Kembla since 1992.

Tim is also a part of the panel of external solicitors who are approved to act on behalf of the Department of Family & Community Services in care proceedings in the Children's Court, which provides him with a depth of experience and a unique perspective in care applications. He also appears regularly in cases under the Care Act for children, parents, grandparents as well as carers (including foster carers).

Tim's philosophy in family law disputes is to apply his skills as an FDR practitioner to settle cases wherever possible. This is especially important in cases involving disputes about children. He has been an authorised FDR practitioner since 2008, having met the Accreditation Standards set out by the Family Law (Family Disputes Resolution Practitioners) Regulations. Tim is also the Director of the Wollongong Mediation Centre, which operates from the Conference Rooms at the same address as the law firm. In recent times Tim has had success in convening settlement conferences over many hours with other solicitors and their clients which have resulted in many property disputes being resolved early, and without the parties having to even file a Court application, saving all parties time, money and stress.

In the past, Tim has also served on the Executive of the Wollongong & District Law Society including discrete periods as the Young Lawyers Representative, Vice President and President. He regularly supervises students from the University of Wollongong Law School as part of the Professional Legal Training and Professional Placement Programs, which are designed to equip law students for professional practice as solicitors.

Tim has strong connections with Wollongong, having been born here and practising exclusively in Wollongong since 1992. In his free time, Tim likes to spend time travelling as well enjoying "down time" with his family.
