Kristie Schubert, HWL Ebsworth
Kristie is a Partner in HWLE’s Tax Dispute Resolution and Controversy practice. She has extensive experience in all areas of tax controversy, tax risk management and tax dispute resolution.
Prior to joining HWLE Kristie worked as a Director in the legal arm of one of the Big Four accounting firms, representing and advocating on behalf of individuals, small and large corporations and multinationals subject to risk reviews and audits, as well as advising in respect of objections, litigation and alternative dispute resolution processes. Kristie also spent several years with the same firm in their tax disputes team in London working on a range of contentious tax matters and disputes.
In addition, Kristie also previously worked for several years at the ATO as a Senior Litigator, as well as in the position of Tax Controversy Director for a large multi-national, managing tax disputes and litigation throughout the APAC region.
Kristie’s experience is unique, giving her the benefit of experience, at senior levels, across the three lenses of a tax dispute (client, adviser and tax authority) and from a truly international platform. This breadth and depth of experience sets Kristie apart from other advisers in this field.
Kristie holds a Master of Taxation from the University of Sydney and is a Chartered Tax Adviser.
EXPERIENCE
Kristie’s experience includes:
- Advising clients on contentions tax matters involving State and Federal taxes, including in respect of disputes with the Australian Taxation Office, State Revenue Office and Innovation and Science Australia;
- Advising clients on tax risk assessment and management, including objective assessment of tax positions taken, as well as the assessment and preparation of evidence;
- Representation and advocacy on behalf of clients in respect of tax litigation and appeals, including representation before the Tribunal and Courts;
- Objective assessment of evidence and assistance in the collation and preparation of evidence;
- Assistance with managing tax authority interactions and engagement, including ATO enquiries, risk reviews and audits;
- Assisting, advising and representing clients in respect of Alternative Dispute Resolution processes.
