My practice is confined to construction and commercial litigation. I act for builders, contractors, subcontractors, developers and homeowners in disputes across all Queensland jurisdictions — QCAT, and the Magistrates, District and Supreme Courts.
A substantial part of my work involves the Queensland Building and Construction Commission. That includes directions to rectify, internal review and QCAT review of QBCC decisions, licensing and exclusion matters, Queensland Home Warranty Scheme claims, and defending statutory insurance recovery proceedings brought under section 71 of the Queensland Building and Construction Commission Act 1991 against building companies and their directors. I also defend statutory prosecutions and infringement notices brought against licensees.
Outside the QBCC, I act in defective and incomplete work claims, contract termination and repudiation, variations and delay claims, and payment claims and adjudication under the Building Industry Fairness (Security of Payment) Act 2017.
My approach is to build the client's position properly at the outset and resolve the matter early where that is achievable, and to say plainly when a claim is not worth running.
I hold a Master of Laws in Applied Law (Commercial Litigation) and teach postgraduate law as a sessional academic at the Queensland University of Technology. I am a member of the Queensland Law Society and was a Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 finalist.
