Brian leads the national Insurance team, splitting his time between our Sydney and Melbourne offices.
Brian acts in:
- Simple and complex property damage claims and recoveries;
- Building & construction litigation – particularly home warranty insurance (claims and recoveries), contract works insurance (claims and recoveries) and large defect litigation;
- Dual insurance matters;
- Subrogated recoveries, including claims against developers, engineers, architects and certifiers;
- Liability defences;
- Indemnity disputes;
- Recoveries under deeds of indemnity and guarantees;
- Policy coverage and construction advices; and
- General commercial litigation.
Brian brings a pro-active approach to litigation focusing on early resolution and commercial outcomes. Brian has extensive experience in dispute resolution, and litigating across every state and territory in Australia. If a matter cannot be resolved, Brian strives to obtain the best outcome for clients as evidenced in multiple published and unpublished decisions.
Brian regularly present papers to insurers and self-insurers and runs training seminars, addressing insurance law and building & construction law topics. Brian strives to be the first point of call for any questions or assistance our clients need.
In 2023, our Insurance team won Insurance Team of the Year at the Australian Law Awards. We have been a finalist in many other years (including 2024).
In 2024, Brian was a finalist for Insurance Partner of the year at the Australian Law Awards.
