Jill ran a private legal practice in Canberra for over 30 years, initially known as Jill McSpedden and Associates. Prior to this she was employed in the Insurance Commission and the Trade Practices Commission, now known as the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, and subsequently in a private Canberra law firm for a few years.
Jill has been a member of the ACT Consumer Affairs Council, a member of the ACT Credit Tribunal and a member of the ACT Law Society’s Professional Conduct Board. She has also been a member of various committees of the ACT Law Society, including the Property Law Committee, the Insurance Law Committee and the Elder Law Committee. In 2007 Jill was a founding member of the Estate Planning Group, which comprises local lawyers, financial advisors and accountants. Jill was recommended in 2016 as a leading wills & estates litigation Lawyer in the Doyles Guide.
In July 2008, Jill welcomed Christine Harvey to Jill McSpedden and Associates and the firm became known as McSpeddenHarvey. In the following decade, the firm continued to prosper as a well established and recognised boutique legal services firm, focusing on estates, estate planning, conveyancing and business law. Jill and Christine joined BAL Lawyers Estates and Estate Planning Team in January 2020.
