Jane is an Accredited Family Law Specialist with a particular interest in the post separation care and support of children.
Jane was admitted as a Solicitor of the High Court of New Zealand in 1989 and in the Supreme Court of Western Australia in 2008. She became an Accredited Family Law Specialist in 2015. She is a member of the Family Law Practitioners Association of WA and the Law Society of WA.
Before joining the team at Kim Wilson & Co Family Lawyers in January 2008, Jane was a Partner in a boutique Family Law firm in New Zealand, where she accumulated over 18 years’ experience in all aspects of Family Law, including parenting matters, the division of relationship property and the representation of children and young people in proceedings in the Family and Youth Courts. She retains a keen interest in ensuring the interests of children and young people are met.
In 2017 and 2018, Jane was named a Leading Lawyer in Parenting, Custody and Children’s Matters (WA) by Doyle’s Guide, an honour that reflects Jane’s commitment to and particular interest in this very important area of Family Law.
Jane was appointed as a Consultant at Kim Wilson & Co on 1 July 2018.
Jane advises and acts for clients involved in all aspects of Family Law, including care arrangements for children, child support, spousal maintenance, property settlement and post settlement financial arrangements.
Jane has provided advice to and acted for parties involved in International Surrogacy Arrangements, in the Administrative Appeal Tribunal on Child Support matters and in the Magistrates Court on Restraining Order and criminal matters.
Jane regularly conducts Trials on behalf of clients and works closely with experienced Barristers in complex Family Court matters, including relocation both within and outside Australia, Hague Convention matters for the return of children, surrogacy and complex parenting cases.
Jane has a strong focus on mediated outcomes in all matters, and can assist in the preparation of documents to record any Agreement reached. If Agreement is not able to be reached, Jane provides efficient and effective assistance for the timely and cost effective resolution of Court proceedings.
Jane combines her extensive knowledge and experience in the Law with an ability to listen to her client’s priorities and concerns in order to achieve the best result for them. She is conscious of the financial constraints that can affect the way proceedings are run, and works with her clients to ensure a cost effective approach.
In her spare time, Jane reads, plans her next holiday and follows the All Blacks progress.
