Matthew Barnes is a Partner at Maguire & McInerney Lawyers, and an Accredited Specialist in Commercial Litigation.
Matthew is the only Accredited Specialist in the Illawarra who specialises in Building and Construction Law. He has acted extensively for property owners, builders and developers in relation to defective building claims, Security of Payment Act claims and general contract disputes. Matthew has extensive experience in appearing at NCAT, the Supreme Court of NSW, and the lower Courts. Matthew has also appeared in interstate Courts and has been appointed to the Register of Practitioners of the High Court of Australia.
Matthew also has expertise in insurance, professional negligence, equity, local government and planning and insolvency law.
Matthew holds a Masters degree of Applied Law (Commercial Litigation) and has two Honours degrees in Law and Economics respectively.
In addition, Matthew is also a highly experienced advocate in Criminal Law Matters. Matthew has a particular interest in ‘white collar’ crime where his commercial background is often of great assistance.
Matthew has been involved in a broad range of cases including successful Court of Criminal Appeal matters and regularly appears in District Court Trials. Matthew has also completed a Masters degree in the area of Criminal Law.
