Melissa was a Partner at Paterson & Dowding Family Lawyers for 5 years, prior to purchasing and rebranding current firm, Calverley Johnston Family Lawyers, in 2017.
Melissa has extensive experience in complex financial matters involving corporate structures and self-managed superannuation funds. Melissa is also a qualified Independent Children’s Lawyer, which gives her a unique edge when representing clients in parenting proceedings.
Melissa’s areas of expertise include:
- Division of assets, liabilities and superannuation entitlements;
- Identification of taxation implications in family law settlements;
- Child related issues, including risk issues and overseas travel;
- Spousal maintenance;
- Child support, including departures from agency assessments; and
- Divorce.
Melissa regularly appears as Counsel in the Family Court of Western Australia and is one of a handful of solicitors in Western Australia who is qualified and has successfully practiced in the area of Collaborative Law.
