Uzma Abbas is experienced in the practice of law & specifically crime. Over the years she has worked for various government departments including The Crown Solicitor’s Office NSW, The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution (ODPP) NSW, The Australian Government Solicitor (AGS) and The Legal Aid Commission NSW.
As a criminal defence lawyer, she has broad experience and exposure with her practicing in Sydney, Western Sydney, the Northern Rivers NSW (Ballina, Byron Bay, Lismore, Kyogle and Casino), Newcastle, and the Central Coast (Gosford, Wyong and Woy Woy) both in the adult and children’s jurisdictions.
Uzma continues to contribute to the community by engaging in Pro Bono work with victims of domestic violence who require urgent advice and at various legal centre’s based in Sydney including Kingsford Legal centre, Redfern Legal centre, The Inner City Legal Centre and The Youth Shopfront
She has represented clients who are disadvantaged by mental illness, disability and generally who have limited access to the law and suffer both financial and social hardships. This includes representing clients from ethnic minority groups in and across Sydney and Western Sydney as well as Indigenous communities located in rural zones including Broken Hill.
