Kate Mills, Delaney & Delaney

Kate is an Associate at the firm Delaney & Delaney, having joined them in 2021.

Kate practices in the areas of Family Law and Domestic and Family Violence. She regularly appears in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia and the in the State Magistrates Court of Queensland.

With over 20 years in practice, Kate is highly experienced in her chosen specialty.  She is committed to resolving her client’s disputes as quickly as possible and achieving for them their best outcome.

She provides high quality advice and representation in all areas of family law including financial, parenting, child support, maintenance and divorce.

Kate represents applicants, aggrieved and respondents in Domestic and Family Violence matters, with a focus on ensuring that Orders are made when necessary and desirable and that it is the party in most need of protection who receives it.

With Queensland having a split legal profession, Kate is not only a skilled solicitor with experience in briefing counsel for trial, but will also call upon her years of experience as a barrister and solicitor in Tasmania to appear as a solicitor advocate for her clients when the occasion calls for it.

Kate was admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Tasmania in 1999, after completing a combined Bachelor of Arts (Psychology) and Bachelor of Laws degree at the University of Tasmania.

Kate was entered in the Register of Practitioners of the High Court of Australia in 1999 and is entitled to practice as a Barrister and Solicitor in any Federal Court in Australia.

In 2017 after moving from Launceston, Tasmania to the Sunshine Coast, Kate was granted a reciprocal right to practice in Queensland.

While in Tasmania Kate worked as a family law practitioner at the Legal Aid Commission and in private practice, including as principal of her own firm, for over 10 years.

Since 2017 she has worked in Queensland; with DJAG, not-for-profit organisations and in private practice.

Kate was previously an active member of the Tasmanian Family Law Practitioner’s Association, the Tasmanian Bar Association and, briefly, was a Council member of the Law Council of Tasmania. While practicing in Launceston, she was privileged to be the co-coordinator of Family Law circuit dinners and functions, granting her the opportunity to meet in less formal settings many members of the judiciary and their associates.

Since moving to Queensland she has joined the ranks of the Family Law Practitioners Association of Queensland, the Family Law Pathways Network (Greater Brisbane), and the Queensland Law Society.  She has also continued her long standing membership with the Family Law Section, Law Council of Australia.
