William Martyr is the principal lawyer of Inner West Criminal Lawyers, a dedicated boutique criminal defence law firm.
William’s criminal law career began as a solicitor at the NSW Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions. As a prosecutor, he gained experience working alongside some of New South Wales’ most seasoned criminal barristers in a wide range of serious offences, including:
- Sexual Assault
- Drug Possession, Supply, Manufacturing and Importation
- Assault (Common Assault, Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm, Grievous Bodily Harm and Wounding)
- Firearms and Weapons Charges
- Driving Occasioning Death
- Fraud
- Murder and Manslaughter
This experience gave him key insights into the approach taken by prosecutors, including how to negotiate the best outcome for his clients today.
Since transitioning to criminal defence, William has a proven track record as a trusted advocate, appearing in the Local, District and Supreme Court. William regularly appears in complex hearings and sentences across greater Sydney and rural NSW.
William’s work was recognised by his peers when he was named as a finalist in Lawyers Weekly’s 30 Under 30 – Criminal Law in both 2024 and 2025.
William regularly donates his time as part of the Marrickville Legal Centre’s Criminal Law Clinic.
Outside of the law, William fits the “Inner West” stereotype, as he lives under the flight path and is currently rehabilitating a rescue Staffy mutt named “Magpie” with 3 legs.
