Gavin has spent over a decade developing broad experience in environment, planning, waste and administrative/local government law.
Gavin has acted in planning matters for private developers, and local and state government authorities. This includes advising on strategy, project and DA documents, negotiating VPAs, acting in dozens of Land and Environment Court proceedings and advising in relation to orders and compliance issues.
Gavin has extensive administrative law and transactional experience acting for NSW Councils. This includes all aspects of the Local Government Act, procurement/probity processes, tenders, acting as probity auditor, and drafting and negotiating contracts.
Gavin’s peerless knowledge of the waste industry has seen him advise Federal, State and Local Governments on waste policy and legislation issues, and act for a range of waste service providers from multi-nationals to small operators. He is regularly invited to speak at waste industry functions, and write in waste industry publications. Gavin has advised on a range of issues from drafting waste tenders, acting in waste contract disputes, advising on the establishment of new facilities (including DA and EPL processes and Land and Environment Court appeals), and operational aspects of waste, including waste legislation, the waste levy, waste transportation, waste classification, and asbestos issues. Gavin has also advised clients throughout EPA investigations and defended EPA prosecutions. He has also acted in many transactions and disputes relating to contaminated land.
Gavin takes pride in not only delivering excellent results, but above all, being easy to work with.
Gavin’s expertise was recognised when he was named a “Rising Star” in Doyle’s Guide 2016.
Outside of work, Gavin enjoys travelling and experiencing new destinations. When at home, he takes pride in showing off (and sampling) his collection of scotch and other whiskies. He is a keen sportsman, though has accepted that he’s better at watching most sports than competing in them (unless it’s his beloved Arsenal giving him more grey hairs).
