Nick is a Partner at Stary Norton Halphen, where he has practiced since 2015 after completing a Juris Doctor at the University of Melbourne. He is a Law Institute of Victoria Accredited Specialist in Children’s Law and a recognised leader in defending children and young people in the criminal justice space.
With over a decade of experience as a criminal defence lawyer, Nick has dedicated the majority of his practice to representing children and young people in the criminal justice system. His work spans the full spectrum of criminal law — from sexual and drug offences to high-profile terrorism and homicide cases — across all Courts in Victoria. He is also Deputy Chair of the Law Institute of Victoria’s Child and Youth Issues Sub-Committee and a member of the LIV Executive Committee.
Nick also represents adults in complex criminal matters, including where issues of self-defence or mental impairment are raised. Nick’s commitment to the rights of every client is reflected not only in his advocacy but in his unwavering dedication to those most vulnerable. His background includes internships with the Aboriginal Legal Service of Western Australia and GRACE, an anti–death penalty criminal defence firm in Houston, Texas.
