An expert in his field, Brett was admitted to practice in 1997, and since that time has focussed purely on insurance law, acting on behalf of insurers, brokers and self insured organisations.
Brett has been a Partner since the early 2000s, and has practiced purely in insurance law since beginning his career in 1994. He grew with Barker Gosling (which morphed into DibbsBarker), before co-founding HBA Legal in 2011.
An expert in his field, Brett has acted for large insurance companies and Australian companies, and self-insured organisations, the bulk of this lying in State Workers Compensation, Federal Compensation, public liability, motor vehicle claims and administrative law. He has acted for licensed employers under the Federal Compensation Scheme since 1997, and as Counsel in AAT and Federal Court matters.
Brett’s skills extend to dispute resolution, public liability, professional indemnity, directors’ and officers’ liability and statutory scheme compensation. He has extensive advocacy experience and regularly appears before State and Federal Courts and Tribunals. Brett also advises large Australian companies on acquiring self insurance status, and obtaining and retaining their license including assistance with audits. He speaks at a wide variety of industry seminars and was the Honorary Legal Adviser to the Safety, Rehabilitation & Compensation Licensees Association until March 2014.
Brett is recognised for his open communication style wherein he gives clients objective and balanced advice keeping their business needs at the forefront. He remains attentive to risks such as those involving media and regulators, working as an extension of his client’s team.
